Responsibilities

The incumbent's primary responsibility is collection of blood specimens and the collection of other biological specimens submitted for laboratory analysis. Responsible for keeping a clean, stocked work area, filing and delivering laboratory reports, performing laboratory computer functions, and performing EKG’s.  Efforts are focused on meeting the patient's needs and providing safe, efficient customer service ensuring accurate, timely test results.  The incumbent also may perform specimen-processing tasks as necessary.

The incumbent works closely with general supervisor communicating any identified problem conditions that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.

Other Qualifications

Medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

- Performs a variety of examinations and control test such as hematological, serological, bacteriological, and chemical to determine the absence or presence and the nature of diseases or abnormal conditions.
- Draws and examines blood and other smears
- Makes chemical determinations of blood and urine
- Prepares and examines culture media, stains, and blood counts
- Performs tests ordered by the Physician
- Conducts quality control
- Prepares specimens for mailing to other labs for testing
- Sets up and cares for lab equipment and apparatus
- Charts tabulates and keeps records of tests and submits records
- Compiles data and prepares reports regarding lab services performed - Confers with nurses, Dr's, and other lab personnel
- Must possess a valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist License issued by the State of California Department of Health Services
